Ghost Hunt - 29th August 2009
We had another eventful night on the 2009 ghost hunt.
A team of brave supporters who call themselves The Ghostie Crew had a spectacular night of ghost hunting on Saturday 29th August09. Hyde Town Hall, Manchester was the venue and below is some information about the building and some of the photos taken on the night.
Hyde Town Hall is a very haunted building. During the investigation we had access to all areas including the old ballroom, council chambers, changing rooms, courtrooms, Victorian police cells and much more!
Hyde Town Hall is over a hundred and twenty years old. Built in 27th June 1885 and designed by J.W. Beaumont who had won a competition with his design for a building in "Queen Anne Revival" style which would cost less than £8,000.
In this massive building there is numerous rooms, also there is a very impressive war memorial. The memorial consists of five wall-mounted oak panels bearing the names of the men who died in the Great War. Interestingly, although the Werneth Low Memorial states that 710 men lost their lives, only 707 names were recorded on the panels.
The town hall holds a haunted reputation amongst its visitors and staff who work there. There have been strange and unusual phenomena ranging from phantom footsteps to the appearance of a former mayor! We expected this location with its myriad of rooms to provide interesting and varied paranormal experiences!
Poltergeist activity has also been reported many times, visitors and staff alike have had small stones and objects thrown near them. It can startle even the keenest eyed visitor and is always seen coming from a horizontal position, suggesting it was thrown from nearby!
There were a lot of cold spots, noises, movement and loads of orbs. Check out the photos.
